Water supply and sewerage in the central Kysuce region

Project objectives:

• Improve the collection and treatment of municipal wastewater in agglomerations over 24,000 PE in accordance with Slovakia’s commitments to the EU.
• Increase the reliability of water treatment from large-capacity surface water sources, thereby improving the safety of drinking water supply through public water systems.

Project area:

The Central Kysuce region – northern part of the Žilina Region, including the built-up and non-built-up areas of the town of Krásno nad Kysucou and the municipalities of Nová Bystrica, Stará Bystrica, Klubina, Zborov nad Bystricou, Radôstka, and Oščadnica. The area lies in the valleys of the rivers Kysuca, Bystrica, Oščadnica, and Radôstka, with the northern boundary forming the state border with Poland.

Project scope:

The project is divided into three main activities:

Activity A – water supply

• Preparation of design documentation and as-built documentation.
• Engineering services – obtaining permits for special use of roads and public spaces.
• Construction works:
  • Construction of approx. 23 km of water supply network in Krásno nad Kysucou, Nová Bystrica, Stará Bystrica, and Oščadnica.
  • 600 water connections, 3 water reservoirs, and 2 pumping stations.

Activity B – sewerage

• Design and engineering services as in Activity A.
• Construction works:
  • Construction of a sanitary sewer network with a total length of approx. 100 km.
  • 15 pumping stations, approx. 3,900 sewer connections (23 km).
  • Municipalities: Krásno nad Kysucou, Nová Bystrica, Stará Bystrica, Klubina, Zborov nad Bystricou, Oščadnica, Radôstka.

Activity C – wastewater treatment

• Design documentation and building permits.
• Construction works:
  • Reconstruction and intensification of the Krásno nad Kysucou WWTP to a capacity of 24,557 PE.

Key project indicators:

• Reconstruction of the Krásno nad Kysucou WWTP.
• Sewer network: 129,112.88 m (including connections), 15 pumping stations.
• Water supply network: 23,317.16 m, 600 connections, 2 water reservoirs, 1 pumping station.

Contractual conditions:

Implementation according to FIDIC “Yellow Book” (1999, Slovak translation SACE 2008).
