Lock of the navigation channel

Complete reconstruction and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant on Císařský Island, stage no. 0008 – Compensation measures.

The subject of the public contract is the execution of construction work consisting of the implementation of a permanent closure of the Troja navigation channel in the form of a weir structure with a movable spillway edge.

The profile of the permanent closure of the navigation channel is designed so as not to cause unnecessary restriction of flow. Therefore, the basic dimensions of the required flow area were first determined. The proposed width of the dammed field of the final closure is 22.50 m, which meets the requirements of the State Navigation Administration for maintaining a navigation channel width of 20.00 m and guarantees the preservation of the existing conditions for the operation of the small hydroelectric power plant at the Podbaba lock.

Only the upper part of the side pillars will be visible. Access to the engine rooms is via a hatch at ground level. Retaining walls form a handling area for a mobile crane. A steel pipe flap driven by a hydraulic motor, which will be brought to the shafts if necessary, will serve as a barrier structure. The flap is divided into two halves and is mounted in the bank wings and the substructure. The flap itself is fixed between two concrete bank pillars. From the bank pillars, there are approaches in the form of wings made of sheet pile walls that seamlessly connect to the existing banks of the navigation channel.  Under normal flow conditions in the Vltava River, the closure will be lowered to the bottom of the navigation channel, i.e., it will not be visible.

Technical parameters:

  • Mirror-symmetrical pair of flaps with a horizontal axis of rotation located at the bottom, material: S355 steel
  • Dimensions: closure width 22.5 m, maximum dam height 4.1 m
  • Number of flaps: 2
  • Type of device: movable flap closure

The surrounding area includes a parallel railway line, access roads, and scattered buildings, with a wide river visible to the right and a distant cityscape on the horizon.

In the background, workers in safety gear and construction equipment are visible along the concrete structure, surrounded by trees under a clear blue sky.
