Drinking water treatment plant Shkabaj

Design, construction and operation of municipal water supply Shkabaj, DWTP Prishtina

The scope of work comprises design, construction, installation and commissioning of a drinking water treatment plant with the capacity of 700 l/s. Beside the aeration, flocculation, eight Dual Media Filters are installed for the water treatment followed by a disinfection unit with chlorine. Water tanks, pumping station, sludge treatment, sludge lagoons and a modern laboratory complete the plant.

This project was one of the top priority infrastructure projects, not only for the municipality of Pristina, but also for the whole of Kosovo. Pristina, as an administrative and cultural center of Kosovo, with a population equal to 1/3 of that of the whole country, faced chronic water shortages and rationing of water supplies lasting between 8 to 12 hours per day, which is exacerbated by the recent rapid growth of the population.

This project made it possible to provide a new water source for Prishtina, to secure cost efficient and continuous water supply for the citizens of Prishtina and the surrounding municipalities, contributing to improved living conditions and to the protection of scarce water resources, and to protect the lakes of Batlava and Badovc from depletion.
