STRABAG modernises wastewater infrastructure in Serbia for EUR 45 million

• EU and Serbian co-financed infrastructure project strengthens sustainable wastewater management in Čačak
• Contract volume of approximately 45 million euros

As part of the project, wastewater collection and treatment systems in Čačak will be expanded and upgraded to comply with the requirements of the EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive. STRABAG will be responsible for key design, construction, and supply services.

This contract further strengthens STRABAG’s position in the field of water and environmental infrastructure in Southeast Europe. Following the award of the Krnjača Wastewater Treatment Plant project in Belgrade last year, STRABAG has now secured another major water infrastructure project in Serbia. Together, these landmark projects demonstrate the Group’s strong capabilities in delivering complex environmental infrastructure and support the long-term modernisation of municipal public services across the country.

The project is co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Serbia. Its objective is to progressively align the existing wastewater infrastructure with European environmental standards and sustainably improve water quality throughout the region.

Key Project Components

• Design of a wastewater treatment plant with an ultimate capacity of 128,000 population equivalents (PE)
• Construction of the first development phase with a capacity of 96,000 PE
• Construction of transfer and overflow structures, including collector pipelines
• Construction of a new access road to the treatment plant, including a bridge over the Atenica River
• Modernisation of 3 pumping stations
  
• Construction of a new access road to the Ljubić Polje pumping station
• Inspection, cleaning, and rehabilitation of approximately 2.4 km of existing sewer network using CCTV technology
• Supply of a combined jetting and vacuum truck, as well as a CCTV inspection vehicle

Upon completion, the new infrastructure will make a substantial contribution to safe and sustainable wastewater treatment in Čačak. At the same time, the project will improve water protection and establish the foundation for long-term urban and regional development.

Implementation will commence in September 2026 and is scheduled for completion within three years. Through this project, STRABAG is helping to future-proof Serbia’s municipal infrastructure and improve quality of life for local communities over the long term.
