Dirmerzheim Waterworks – Erftstadt

Project description

As part of this project, the treatment stage of a waterworks with a capacity of 4,800 m³/h was comprehensively expanded and modernised. The objective was to sustainably ensure water quality while improving the efficiency of existing processes and upgrading them to the latest technological standards. A key element of the project was the integration of an oxygen dosing system.

Requirements

The project requirements included the implementation of a water treatment system that was both high-performance and reliable, whilst meeting the highest quality and hygiene standards. Furthermore, the focus was on high plant availability, durable materials and optimal integration into existing structures.

Main Services

As part of the project implementation, the following key services were carried out:

  • Installation of 8 pressure filter vessels, each with a diameter of 6.0 m, for water filtration, iron removal, manganese removal, and post-neutralization (recarbonation/pH adjustment).
  • Installation of large-diameter pipelines and valves with nominal diameters exceeding DN 1000, constructed from high-quality materials such as Rilsan-coated components and stainless steel (1.4571) to ensure corrosion resistance and long-term durability.
  • Installation of high-performance pumping systems, ensuring reliable and continuous plant operation.
  • Integration of modern instrumentation and measurement technology, enabling precise monitoring and control of all relevant process parameters.
  • Implementation of physical deacidification using four tray aerators (flat-bed aerators), providing effective pH value adjustment.

Technical features

The project was characterised by a high degree of technical complexity. Close integration between building services engineering, plant and process engineering, and instrumentation and control was required, necessitating extensive coordination throughout all phases of the project. Furthermore, the assembly and handling of large-scale plant components placed significant demands on planning, logistics and execution. Precise scheduling and experienced specialists were crucial to ensuring that the components were installed safely and on schedule.
